Curiosity Cloud by Mischler-Tixler

In an ongoing collaboration with Perrier-Jouët champagne, a Vienna based design studio Mischler-Tixler held an extraordinary installation, Curiosity Cloud,  in Norfolk House music room of The V&A Museum. The two designers filled a room with glass bulbs each of which contained a hand made insect that fulltered inside the bulb in reaction to visitors’ movements. The 25 different spieces of insects and 264 mouth- blown glass bulbs in three sizes were made for this show. Insects were made from transparent printed foil that is laser cut very precisely and then assembled by hand. The bulbs were suspened from the ceiling in three different heights and they also contained sensors that detect visitors movement and activate light and movement of the insects.

The idea of using insects came from Perrier-Jouët’s connection to Art-Nouveau which is visibile from it’s visual identity, a period where insects and other natural motif’s were very common.

"It's an interactive installation that tries to create a moment that we would never have in reality with nature, but tries to capture a special moment that we do encounter in nature. It creates this atmosphere of sound and movement" said Katharina Mischer, the co-founder of the studio.
