LED Street Art Illuminates an Alley in Philadelphia

Like a rebel taking its own path, Percy Street breaks from Philadelphia’s orderly grid, curving into sort of a ‘J’ shape. Sections of the street are in seclusion and this has made it a haven for illicit activities. With the support of the City of Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program, as well as input from the Passyunk Square Civic Association in the neighborhood, Mural artist, David Guinn collaborated with lighting designer Drew Billiau and developed a multimedia work of paint and light. Since the lights are LEDs, the cost is only two or three dollars a month. The city is hopeful that this will ultimately lower the occurrences of crime in the area.
